Let’s start with the important question. What is Functional Nutrition?

In short, Functional Nutrition is the science of applied biochemistry. It is a proactive and preventive approach to health that delves beyond surface-level remedies to uncover the root cause of ailments. Rather than simply masking symptoms, it addresses the imbalances within the body contributing to a person’s symptom(s) or illness.


In contrast to traditional healthcare, which often treats individual symptoms separately, Functional Nutrition seeks to understand if these symptoms might be linked to a common root cause. By nourishing the body at the cellular level, Functional Nutrition addresses this root cause effectively by utilising the healing properties of food and lifestyle modalities to rebuild and repair the body’s biochemical and metabolic processes.


Functional Nutrition practitioners take a holistic approach to diet and wellness, assessing the entire body and evaluating different imbalances that may be present. These imbalances can involve factors such as chronic inflammation, various toxicities, nutrient deficiencies, environmental exposures, stress levels, digestive problems, microbial imbalances, activity levels, and hormone imbalances, all of which can contribute to chronic diseases such as arthritis, obesity, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and autoimmune disorders.
